'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the thrilling closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful effort from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess immediately hammered in the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an unbelievable turnaround given the team had found themselves down 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. In the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory earned a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right wing-back after the team changed tactics. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way the underdogs approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can feel you're doing well and then without warning they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and focus just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a popular figure across two seasons at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in Wales. At Orient he joined forces once more with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a bit naive going into senior level. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without much intensity. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that growth for his team and nation, performing well for his national side, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks an incredible journey for the player from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who used to see his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

His sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the drivers, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with followers on London's Central line after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
