The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing video review technology.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships this year.
Competitors will gain the option to challenge certain calls made by the chair umpire, mirroring the system currently in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move arrives only a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to review specific situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a competitor can ask for.
Practical Application
A recent case took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
